The position of the Director of Student Jewish Life requires proper job qualifications including an M.S. in Special Education and Rabbinic Ordination. The primary responsibility is to provide instructional oversight to the Judaic Studies’ program at Kulanu.
An effective Director of Student Jewish Life has the following responsibilities:
1. Supervision of Judaic Studies’ teachers:
o Evaluation for the performance of the faculty for either retention or dismissal purposes. This includes holding formal and informal observations, pre and post observation conferences and written evaluations.
o Scheduling of classes
o Conducting supervision and team meetings.
o Being involved in transition planning for students
o Participate in joint staff meetings with other school administrators and faculty when deemed necessary and appropriate.
o Encourage faculty to enroll in courses and training to benefit student education (e.g. Hebrew reading, classroom management courses, etc…)
o Providing a plan in case of teacher’s absence. At no time will a class be given a free, unsupervised period because the classroom teacher is absent.
2. Planning and implementation of all curriculum activities:
o Assemblies and creative programs including inclusion programs (e.g. reverse inclusion minyanim, Holiday programs, etc…);
o All trips pertaining to the curriculum.
o Encouraging school spirit.
o Planning for and implementation of comprehensive and functional curriculum
3. Active participation in weekly meetings with key personnel that affect the school.
4. Planning the yearly calendar and the preparation of the opening of the school year with the Director of Education and other school administrators. This includes the Teacher Handbook and Handbook for Parents.
5. With the Director of Education and other school administrators, plan and review overall functioning of the physical plant, joint curricular activities, special events and school policy.
6. Ensuring proper Kosher standards according to the students’ needs.
7. Student recruitment and planning for after school programs which include afternoon preschool program, afternoon elementary school program and evening
8. Assisting teachers, students and parents with matters that pertain to a student’s overall welfare.
9. Be aware of and support all after school and evening program
10. Work with Kulanu to promote and publicize events and notable achievements of students and faculty.
