As someone who serves as a presenter at Professional Development conferences, as well as participating within an alternate framework as a Group Facilitator in various school districts, I can affirm that both workshops and group work can have a positive impact on participants.
I believe the key element in a presentation being of and having lasting meaning is the presenter taking into account not only what is of value for the students, but what the experience is for the teacher who is being shown (taught, explained) the particular subject (idea, theory, etc.).
In any event, it is the presenter's ability to connect with participants, as it is a teacher's ability to connect with students, that will make the significant difference as to whether a presentation does or does not make an impact.
